i Up ⇔ Down
Up/down shifting has different visualizations and perceptions among operators, and therefore can be very confusing. Here are failsafe tips for the joystick: Operate the angle control lever using your thumb.
Figure 1 Up⇔Down
Place your thumb on the left lever in the middle position. With your thumb in this position, slide the lever upward. The angle control lever will tilt away from you, and the tip will tilt upward. Now slide the lever downward. The lever will tilt toward you, and the tip will tilt downward.

ii Right ⇔ Left
Use the small angle control lever on the right to move the field of view right/left.

Figure 3 Right⇔Left
Similarly, as with up/down shifting, place your thumb on the control lever and then slide it to the left. The lever will tilt away from you, and the tip will tilt to the left. Similarly, slide the control lever to the right, and the field of view will move to the right.

iii Downward
First, the downward angle operation with the right/left angle set to 0° will be explained. This operation requires three steps simultaneously: 1) tilting downward, 2) lowering the handle (raising the endoscope tip), and 3) pushing the laparoscope forward.
Figure 5 Downward
When the laparoscope tip is held upward with the handle, the laparoscope end (handle part) is in a lower position. Starting from this position, slowly slide the up/down control lever downward with your thumb while further lowering the laparoscope end to begin the downward angulation.

iv Capture sequence field
ENDOEYE FLEX is best suited for continuous images providing a field of view from multiple directions. When performing up/down angle operations with a fixed-position laparoscope, the field of view will simply move vertically on the screen, and the object will leave the field of view. This operation may be suitable for narrow-range movements in the field of view, but to obtain an image of the object in a better field of view, it is necessary to move the laparoscope up/down to search for the best field of view suitable for angulation.

v Fullwidth + Fullwidth
Do not frequently use Fullwidth + Fullwidth. It should only be used in the most urgent situations to avoid losing the orientation of the image.
vi Braking mechanism
ENDOEYE FLEX has an angle braking lock. When articulating the laparoscope, be sure to set the control lever to the semi-locked position. In the semi-locked position, the endoscope tip will move slowly, allowing the field of view to be safely moved through up/down and right/left angles. Without using the locking mechanism, the operator's hand will become fatigued when holding the angle control lever to fix the field of view. Furthermore, the drastic changes on the screen when releasing the lever can cause the surgeon to become disoriented, which may have a greater effect if the surgeon is using 3D mode.

vii Changing the field of view
Unexpected screen rotation may occur when adjusting the up⇔down and right⇔left angles simultaneously, and you may lose your orientation. When we observe certain things in daily life, we tilt our heads to one side. In fact, the image is rotated, but the brain naturally corrects this rotation.

Use this unconscious revision. While using one angle control lever, tilt the laparoscope to one side, and then control the laparoscope as if you were observing an object. You will find that the view is naturally corrected.
