1. Malfunction Phenomenon
During normal operation of the Siemens X300 ultrasound machine, the monitor's background color intermittently turns yellow for a few seconds before returning to normal.
2. Malfunction Analysis and Troubleshooting
First, we entered the maintenance mode and performed a self-test on the X300, which showed everything normal. Because it is an intermittent malfunction, we could only observe by keeping the machine turned on for a long time. Within more than an hour, we observed the abnormality twice. At the same time of the malfunction, we noticed that the image on the workstation connected to the ultrasound machine did not show any abnormal reaction. Thus, we initially judged that the main unit is normal, and the problem may be with the monitor.
In addition, we found that after turning off the X300 (without disconnecting the power switch at the bottom of the machine), the "no input" message appeared on the monitor, which led us to speculate that the design of this machine may be similar to that of a computer, with the monitor and the main unit having separate power supplies. After opening the back cover of the monitor, we saw a cable from the main unit including a DC12V power output port, a VGA port, and a data cable interface. We used a 12V DC power adapter to power the monitor and connected it to a computer host using a VGA video cable, replacing a regular LCD monitor. After running for two hours, no abnormalities were observed. Therefore, it can be roughly determined that the problem is in the VGA video cable or the connectors at both ends.
After measuring with a multimeter, we found that one end of the video cable had poor contact due to bending. After consulting the manufacturer, they quoted tens of thousands of yuan for the entire cable, but we determined by observation that the video cable connecting the ultrasound host and monitor is independent. Therefore, we replaced it with a three-meter-long VGA video cable, and the fault was eliminated.
