Mindray Ultrasound Case: Sudden Power Failure and Shutdown

The operating physician reported that the Mindray ultrasound DC-8 device suddenly powered off and shut down while normally collecting images from the patient, and then could no longer be started. Apart from this, there were no other abnormal phenomena, such as no sparks or smell of burning.
During on-site detection, it was found that: When the AC power was connected, the AC indicator light lit normally. After pressing the power button, the AC indicator light lit normally, and the power key indicator light lit normally, but the hard disk indicator light did not respond, and the monitor indicator light turned green, then off, and then orange. Checking the power indicator lights on the back of the device, it was found that after powering on, the 12V indicator light was on, and the 5V and 3.3V indicator lights were off.
Fault analysis and troubleshooting
Based on the phenomena and personal repair experience, it was initially judged to be a power module failure. Therefore, contact was made with the manufacturer's engineer, and after communicating the on-site failure situation, it was decided to try replacing the power module circuit board to confirm the cause of the failure. Since our hospital has another DC-8 ultrasound machine that is working normally, parts can be exchanged to help find the problem.
However, after replacing the board, it was found that replacing the AC-DC power module and the power board could not solve the problem, and the malfunction phenomenon after replacing the circuit board was exactly the same as before.
After contacting the manufacturer's engineer again, the digital board and the CPU module were replaced. After all the accessories were replaced, the fault remained.
Following the manufacturer's engineer's instructions, the minimum system was used to troubleshoot the fault. The front outer casing and connecting plates of the equipment were removed, and then the motherboard cables were unplugged. Only the power input cable, monitor power cable and signal cable, and control panel signal cable remained. Under this condition, the machine started normally. Then, other power cables were plugged in one by one. It was found that when the control panel power cable was plugged in, the device could not start. This shows that an internal short circuit on the control panel caused the fault, resulting in no output of +5V and 3.3V from the power module, and the entire machine could not start normally.
After replacing the internal components of the control panel, the device returned to normal.
