Common malfunctions of Olympus gastroscopes include: aging of the outer polyethylene tubing; blockage of the air and water channels; excessive softness of the body, malfunction of the operating and bending sections; blurry lens; and broken light guide. Each malfunction has a corresponding repair method, which will be explained in detail below.

1. Aging of the outer polyethylene tubing
This is mainly determined by several factors, such as environment, temperature, humidity, and operation. The above items are generally easy to control, but the concentration, temperature, and immersion time of the disinfectant have a great influence, which is often overlooked. Therefore, care and maintenance of the outer polyethylene tubing during cleaning and disinfection are very important. Follow the cleaning and disinfection procedures and refer to OLYMPUS company's cleaning, disinfection suggestions, and precautions.
2. Blockage of the air and water channels
The air and water channels of the OLYMPUS electronic gastroscope are designed in a "Y" shape. The air and water pipes pass through the operating section of the gastroscope. The "air and water supply" buttons share a channel and are ejected from the nozzle. The nozzle is flat and has a diameter of only a few millimeters. It is easily blocked by mucus and solidified proteins in the gastric mucosa. Once blocked, it is extremely difficult to clear. Although enzyme disinfectants can be used for soaking to decompose the solidified proteins, and then the full-pipe perfusion device configured by OLYMPUS can be used for flushing to clear general blockages, severe blockages can only be resolved by the company. Do not use needle-like instruments to attempt repairs, as this may cause air or water leakage. Minor issues may lead to internal component rust, while severe issues may damage the CCD camera, causing the electronic gastroscope to malfunction.

3. Excessive body softness, malfunction of operating and bending sections
The above phenomena may be related to environmental temperature, humidity, and usage conditions. Sometimes, poor heat dissipation of the cold light source and prolonged operation time are also contributing factors. Malfunction of the operating and bending sections may be due to the detachment or elongation of the angle wire in one or more directions. This is probably related to the operating technique. Avoid excessive force, over-exertion, and forceful rotation during angle adjustment, which may cause the drum to squeeze and rub the angle wire rope, leading to elongation, breakage, or detachment of the end.
4. Blurry lens. Broken light guide.
This phenomenon is likely to occur in winter, mainly due to the short-term temperature difference between the ambient temperature and the body temperature. Before use, wipe the body with a warm, damp cloth repeatedly or soak it in warm water (preferably in an air-conditioned environment). In addition, when wiping the lens, use a professional lens cloth (chamois), not other materials (such as gauze). The causes of light guide breakage include excessive body softness, large diurnal temperature differences; secondly, the bending diameter of the tube is too small (less than 12 cm); and touching or contacting objects with large temperature differences when removing the electronic gastroscope's light guide connector from the cold light source. When not in use, the electronic gastroscope should be placed in a dedicated constant-temperature disinfection cabinet or in an environment with continuous 24-hour air conditioning.
With economic development, the advent of electronic gastroscopes has greatly assisted in improving medical diagnosis. Inevitable malfunctions can occur during the use of electronic gastroscopes, so repair personnel must master the key repair points to ensure the normal operation of the electronic gastroscope system. However, it should be noted that if a malfunction occurs and you are unsure how to repair it, do not attempt to disassemble the equipment yourself. Instead, contact a professional repair company.
