1. Malfunction Phenomenon
The machine can start normally. When using a phased array transducer (FPA 2.5MHz), there is no initial wave in the image area, only noise, and ultrasonic scanning diagnosis cannot be performed. The image on the monitor is shown in Figure 1.
When switching to a linear array transducer (FLA 10MHz), there is an initial wave in the image area, but only about 1/3 of the normal situation, and there is no echo in the middle and far field. Increasing the gain increases the noise, making clinical diagnosis impossible. The image on the monitor is shown in Figure 2.

2. Analysis and Repair
According to the analysis of the malfunction phenomenon, it is suspected that there is a malfunction in the ultrasonic emission part of the system. The components that affect the generation and emission of ultrasonic waves mainly include: probes, channel boards, emission boards, front-end control boards, and high-voltage power supplies. Therefore, it is necessary to check step by step to further narrow down the fault range.
First, check if the probe is normal. Unplug the probe, insert it into another socket, and then check if the probe switching is normal. After inspection, the probe switching is normal, and the malfunction phenomenon remains. This shows that the probe and channel board are operating normally.
Next, check the emission pulse trigger signal, which is normal. When detecting the high-voltage power supply, it was found that the +/- 80V power supply had no output. This indicates that the high-voltage power supply is malfunctioning.
A high-voltage power supply malfunction will cause the emission board to be unable to generate ultrasonic pulse output, and thus no initial wave image will be displayed.
3. Troubleshooting
The high-voltage power supply module was removed from the chassis, the metal casing was opened, and a multimeter was used for detection. Two fuses were found to be blown, indicating a short-circuit fault inside the high-voltage power supply. After measurement, two transistors were found to be short-circuited and broken down. Replacing the transistors and fuses with the same Specification, the short-circuit fault was eliminated. After installing the high-voltage power supply module back into the machine and turning it on, the system returned to normal.
4. Experience
The maintenance of ultrasound is a precise and complex project. First, it is necessary to have a certain understanding of the working principle of the equipment, and then, according to the malfunction phenomenon, gradually narrow down the fault range and finally locate a faulty component. Then, the faulty component is checked and analyzed in detail to find the failed or faulty components.
