Preliminary Application of Wireless Image Transmission Technology in Ultrasound Workstations

Release time:

2025-03-12 09:39

Real-time sonograms from ultrasound examinations can be transmitted wirelessly to remote computers, smartphones, and tablets, etc. The received images can basically achieve high definition and near real-time effects with no significant delay. Using wireless transmitting and receiving modules to produce wireless image transmission equipment, with the corresponding ultrasound medical imaging workstation, real-time sonograms can be transmitted losslessly within a certain range through this equipment, thus being displayed in real time on the workstation. By building such a set of ultrasound workstations with similar functions for wireless image transmission technology, we explore its clinical application value in the practice of ultrasound examination and diagnosis.

Clinical Application of Key Images

1. Clinical Physician Image Browsing

Key images stored on the PACS/RIS server mainly include DICOM format images printed by radiology doctors and images with lesion signs added by radiology diagnostic doctors. These images can be easily accessed by clinical physicians. Doctors can access all patient images in PACS and key marked images and electronic films at the clinical workstation, allowing clinical physicians to obtain the useful information they need in a short time, saving the time wasted searching for information from a large number of images; at the same time, clinical physicians can obtain information that cannot be directly described in the image report from the annotation information of key images, especially the location and scope of some important signs and their related measurement information, which is very important for clinical diagnosis and treatment; at the same time, the annotation information of key images will also become an important way for radiologists and clinicians to communicate and learn from each other.

2. Cross-Departmental Image Consultation

The implementation of hospital-wide PACS enables in-hospital consultations to move towards a digital model, with image data analysis and discussion shifting from traditional film/viewing modes to digital image/screen reading modes. The annotation information of key images can fully display the images that consulting doctors are concerned about, especially the analytical image annotation can allow clinical doctors of various specialties and different levels to intuitively browse and understand the information contained in the image data, and propose feasible diagnostic and treatment plans based on their professional characteristics. Compared with the traditional film mode and original images without key image annotation, the annotation information of key images makes the imaging description of radiologists easier to understand and accept. Efficiency improvement is the basic guarantee of the economic benefits of digital radiology. Key image annotation can directly shorten the time for hospital-wide image consultation, improve the level of diagnosis, and reduce the time cost for various departments.

3. Teleconsultation of Medical Images

As a high-tech method, teleradiology is booming. It will give full play to the advantages of experts, enabling patients in different places to enjoy high-level image diagnosis, and is conducive to large-sample medical image research and various educational needs [4]. Teleconsultation of medical images establishes a new connection between medical imaging experts, hospitals, and patients, enabling patients to receive consultations from outside experts on image examinations performed at their original hospitals, thereby saving time and money for doctors and patients. Based on IHEXDS-I technology, PACS networks can achieve remote consultation of PACS networks, but due to network limitations and the limited time of experts, the annotation information of key images is particularly important. The consulting party marks the questionable signs and related information through the annotation information of key images, and the experts can quickly give diagnostic opinions based on the annotation information combined with their own experience, and if necessary, they can see their own diagnostic opinions and supplementary information annotations, and send them back to the PACS/RIS server. This process not only saves time, but also solves the problem of not being able to analyze the images face-to-face, making communication in teleconsultation easier.

4. Archiving of Medical Imaging Teaching Materials

More and more clinical physicians, junior imaging diagnostic physicians, and interns hope to obtain medical imaging diagnostic knowledge conveniently and in real time at work. The application of PACS in hospitals has provided a good technical solution for this, but the simple combination of images and diagnostic reports can no longer meet the needs of teaching. The interactive learning method based on the PACS platform is more acceptable to everyone. The annotation information of key images can not only annotate important positive suggestive information and diagnostic opinions in the images, but also annotate some questioning information for some typical films, enabling learners to understand and digest some signs in real time during learning; at the same time, some difficult cases or cases with different opinions can be annotated with follow-up information, so that they can be reviewed and analyzed to summarize experience when verified.
