China's medical supplies are going global
China exports epidemic prevention materials 102billion
As of April 5, China has signed commercial procurement contracts for medical supplies with 54 countries and 3 international organizations, and has released a total of 10.2 billion yuan worth of major epidemic prevention materials for export.
On April 5, the State Council's joint prevention and control mechanism held a press conference on strengthening the quality management of medical supplies and regulating market order.
At the press conference, the Ministry of Commerce stated that as of yesterday, China has signed commercial procurement contracts for medical supplies with 54 countries and 3 international organizations.
Jin Hai, director of the Comprehensive Business Department of the General Administration of Customs, introduced that from March 1 to April 4, the country released a total of 10.2 billion yuan worth of major epidemic prevention materials for export—mainly including about 3.86 billion masks, valued at 7.72 billion yuan; 37.52 million protective suits, valued at 910 million yuan; 2.41 million infrared thermometers, valued at 331 million yuan; 16,000 ventilators, valued at 310 million yuan; and 2.84 million boxes of novel coronavirus detection reagents and 8.41 million pairs of goggles.
In addition to commercial exports, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs press conference on March 31, spokesperson Hua Chunying revealed that the Chinese government has provided material assistance to 120 countries and 4 international organizations, including ordinary medical masks, N95 masks, protective suits, nucleic acid testing reagents, and ventilators.
WHO real-time statistics show that as of 0:00 Beijing time on April 5, there were 1.05 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 globally, with 57,206 deaths. COVID-19 cases have appeared in 207 countries and regions globally. Over 970,000 cases are outside of China.
According to the latest global COVID-19 statistics released by the United States, as of 8:51 am Beijing time on April 5, the global number of confirmed cases reached 1.2 million, with 64,703 deaths.
Nationwide, as of 24:00 on April 4, there were 1,376 existing confirmed cases, a cumulative total of 76,964 discharged cases, and 3,329 deaths.
Many countries in Europe and America import medical supplies from China
United States: No longer bans imports of KN95 masks from ChinaMasks
According to a report by the US Hill newspaper on April 2, an official from the US FDA told the Buzzfeed news website that due to the shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) in the United States, the FDA will no longer ban the import of KN95 masks from China.
On March 29, the US news website BuzzFeed reported that China's KN95 masks are an alternative to N95 masks, but the US Foodand DrugAdministration refused to allow them to Enter the United States.
On March 28, to alleviate the shortage of medical protective equipment nationwide, the FDA urgently approved non-N95 masks certified by the EU and 5 countries (Australia, Brazil, Japan, South Korea, and Mexico), but KN95 masks did not receive emergency authorization.
France: Has ordered 20billion masks from China
According to French media reports, French Health Minister Olivier Véran said in a media interview that France has ordered nearly 2 billion masks from China. And they are continuing to increase orders.
Following the arrival of the first Chinese plane carrying 5.5 million masks in Paris on March 29, 8.5 million of the 1 billion masks ordered by France from China were delivered to Paris-Vatry Airport on the 30th by a large transport aircraft from Volga-Dnepr Airlines in Russia.
France Bleu radio reported on March 30 that an extremely valuable cargo plane arrived in Paris that afternoon.
To ensure the safety of the masks, France deployed a large number of police and gendarmes equipped with sidearms and anti-drone cannons on the tarmac.
The French National Gendarmerie stated that hundreds of gendarmes were mobilized to perform three security tasks: airport area security, security of the surrounding environment, and security of the subsequent mask transport convoy.
The report stated that it took two hours to unload the transport aircraft on March 30. The prefect of the Val-de-Marne department, Mr. Gahagan, stated that due to the masks being "as valuable as gold bars" during the epidemic, the security forces on site must keep up.
United Kingdom: Protective materials shipped from China
According to Global Times, the British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab and the British Embassy in China released information on March 3 and 4 respectively through international social media, stating that Virgin Atlantic Airways had just shipped a plane full of protective materials from China, including: 300 ventilators, 33 million masks, and 1 million pairs of medical protective gloves.
These materials purchased by the British government first arrived at RAF Brize Norton, and will then be distributed to various medical institutions in the UK by the army.
The British Embassy in China also confirmed that other protective materials will be imported from China to support the UK's fight against the COVID-19 epidemic.
Brazil: China agrees to accept an order of 2hundred million products
Reuters reported on April 3, citing Brazilian Health Minister Luiz Henrique Mandetta, that although the inventory of medical supplies in various Brazilian states is currently sufficient, Brazil must seek help from various countries to find countries willing to accept its medical supply orders worth 1.2 billion reais (approximately US\$228 million) to replenish its inventory.
“The first country said no, the second said no, which worried us. At the end of yesterday afternoon, the fifth country agreed and will deliver within 30 days. This is a very large purchase, enough to last for more than 60 days,” Mandetta said.
Mandetta told Reuters that the "fifth country" is China. He also added that this order involves 200 million products.
Massachusetts, USA: 120,000 masks shipped from Chinathousand masks
According to Global Times, Massachusetts recently decided to purchase 1.7 million masks from China.
After multiple rounds of contact and coordination, with the strong support of the Chinese Consulate General in New York and Chineseenterprisesthe state transported the first batch of 1.2 million masks from Shenzhen, China, via a private plane of the New England Patriots, a professional football team.
New York State, USA: Has ordered 1.7Tens of thousands of ventilators
According to Global Times, on March 31, local time, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said at a press conference that New York State had ordered 17,000 ventilators from China, at a price of $25,000 each. However, he also stated that the state could only ensure receiving 2,500 ventilators.
Cuomo said: "Look at the strange situation we've ended up in:procurementof ventilators. New York State is buying, California is buying, Illinois is buying too; we are all trying to buy the same goods. It's like bidding for ventilators on eBay with 50 other states... It's very inefficient."
Russia: Air Force chartered flights for self-collection
On April 4th, five foreign military aircraft landed at Shanghai Pudong International Airport one after another.
Two Ilyushin Il-76 heavy transport aircraft of the Algerian Air Force took off from Kazan Airport in Russia on the evening of April 3rd and landed at Pudong Airport at 3:39 AM and 4:00 AM on April 4th respectively. The two chartered planes will carry a large amount of epidemic prevention materials, including masks, and are scheduled to return to Kazan Airport in the afternoon of April 4th.
On the evening of April 3rd and in the early morning of April 4th, two Russian Air Force chartered Ilyushin Il-76 heavy transport aircraft also took off from Novosibirsk Airport in Russia to Pudong Airport, landing at 5:06 AM and 7:22 AM on April 4th respectively. They will also collect a large amount of epidemic prevention materials, including masks, and are scheduled to return to Novosibirsk Airport in Russia in the afternoon of April 4th.
The third Russian Air Force chartered plane, an Antonov An-124, took off from Novosibirsk Airport at 1:40 PM on April 4th, and is scheduled to land at Pudong Airport at 8:00 PM on the same day. After loading the epidemic prevention materials, it will return on the morning of April 5th.
At today's press conference, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce made it clear: China has not and will not restrict the export of medical supplies.
