The 2019 China Medical Device Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition Finals Concluded; 66 Projects Enter the National Finals

Its main purpose is to stimulate the innovation of enterprises and scientific researchers, strengthen the connection between innovation, clinical application and capital, and deepen the medical device industry“Industry-Academia-Research-Application-Supervision”cooperation at various stages, thereby promoting the continuous innovation and development of China's medical device industry. The China Medical Device Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition was first held in2018year, with a total of283innovative medical device projects participating. According to statistics,3months after the competition,15winning projects received a total of nearly17billion yuan in financing, effectively accelerating the transformation of achievements into industries.

Hosted by the Medical Device Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance,“2019China Medical Device Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition”was launched on4Month8day, with registration closing on7Month20day. Within103days, a total of projects from home and abroad were received across four competition categories: opto-mechanics-electronics, in-vitro diagnostics, artificial intelligence and software, and materials and accessories technology.607After the registration deadline, the competition organizers invited many top industry experts to conduct preliminary selection of the registration materials. After several days of intensive selection, a total of180projects from the four categories advanced to the semi-finals.

The event brought together80outstanding innovative and entrepreneurial projects for on-site presentations and received strong support from local government units, including the Shandong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, the Weihai Municipal People's Government, and the Weihai Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology;8Month10On20day, with the strong support of the Nanjing Gaochun District People's Government, the semi-finals for opto-mechanics-electronics were held, inviting many industry experts as judges. Each project presentation in the semi-finals lasted20minutes, with a project presentation time limit of15minutes and expert panel Q&A and scoring of5minutes. Finally, scores were given based on six dimensions: innovation, scientific nature, technological maturity, application value, social significance, and risk analysis. To facilitate rapid connection between participating and winning projects and the industry, the organizers carefully planned a Medical Device Innovation Week event concurrently with the competition, bringing together innovative enterprises, research institutes, clinical experts, third-party design and manufacturing, testing, animal and clinical trial institutions, patent service providers, upstream materials and accessories and technology service providers, medical device distribution channel alliances, park incubators, and nearly300investment institutions and many other innovation service-related enterprises and resources, forming“a competition and exhibition, and4+20main and sub-forums”series of activities.
