As the foremost part of a rigid endoscope, the objective lens unit is the most likely component to malfunction. The objective lens cover glass and the distal end of the light guide are the parts that most frequently experience problems.
1. Malfunction Phenomenon
Problems with the objective lens cover glass can cause blurry images or even image loss. Problems with the distal end of the light guide can cause reduced image brightness or even brightness loss.
2. Malfunction Analysis
Malfunctions of the objective lens cover glass are mostly caused by improper use, accidental bumps, or contact with other powered equipment, resulting in breakage, wear, or leakage (as shown in the figure). Malfunctions of the light guide are mostly due to wear during use or cleaning and disinfection, causing the distal end of the light guide to become rough or damaged (as shown in the figure).

3. Malfunction Solutions
The main cause of objective lens unit malfunctions is human error. To avoid malfunctions, operators should handle the equipment gently and avoid collisions with other objects.
During surgical procedures, care should be taken to avoid contact with cutting instruments or other powered equipment to prevent damage to the rigid endoscope. During cleaning and disinfection, ensure that the objective lens unit does not come into contact with hard disinfection boxes or other instruments to avoid damage during operation.
For objective lens unit malfunctions, you can seek repairs from skilled third-party technicians, as original equipment manufacturer repairs often involve replacing the entire objective lens unit and insertion tube for minor malfunctions, resulting in unnecessary waste.
