Malfunction 1

  Malfunction PhenomenonDuring normal use of the Siemens X300 color ultrasound machine, the display background color intermittently turns yellow and then returns to normal after a few seconds.
  Malfunction ResolutionFirst, we entered the maintenance mode and performed a self-test on the X300, and the results showed that everything was normal. Due to the intermittent nature of the malfunction, we could only observe it with the machine running for an extended period. Within more than an hour, we observed the abnormality twice. At the same time the malfunction occurred, we noticed that the image on the workstation connected to the ultrasound machine did not show any abnormal reaction. This initially suggested that the main unit was functioning correctly and the problem might be with the monitor.

  In addition, we found that after turning off the X300 (without disconnecting the power switch at the bottom of the machine), the "no input" message appeared on the monitor. This suggests that the design of this machine may be similar to a computer, with the monitor and main unit having separate power supplies. After opening the back cover of the monitor, we saw a cable from the main unit, which included a DC12V power output port, a VGA port, and a data cable interface. We used a 12V DC power adapter to power the monitor and connected it to a computer main unit with a VGA video cable, using it as a substitute for an ordinary LCD monitor. After running it for two hours, no abnormality was observed. Therefore, it can be judged that the problem lies in the VGA video cable or the interfaces at both ends.

  After measuring with a multimeter, it was found that one end of the video cable was poorly connected due to bending. We consulted the manufacturer, and their quote for the entire cable was over 10,000 yuan. However, by observation, we determined that the video cable connecting the ultrasound main unit and the display was independent, so we replaced it with a three-meter-long VGA video cable and the malfunction was resolved.

  Malfunction Cause Analysis:Through observation, we found that the space behind the X300 ultrasound monitor is narrow, and when rotated left and right, the video cable is bent due to squeezing and dragging. Therefore, after replacing the new cable, we fixed it with cable ties to prevent the display from rotating and affecting it again.

     Malfunction PhenomenonThe trackball cursor of the SEQUIOA-512 color ultrasound machine is not sensitive, and can only move up and down but has difficulty moving left and right.


    Malfunction Analysis:Let's briefly introduce the composition and working principle of the trackball. The trackball component consists of a rolling ball, two friction wheels, two rotating shafts, two light-splitting wheels (grating wheels), four sets of corresponding infrared light-emitting diodes and photosensitive receiving tubes, and a processing chip. Its working principle is similar to that of a mechanical mouse, that is, it relies on the rolling friction of the rolling ball to drive the rotation of the horizontal and vertical rotating shafts, and the rotating shaft drives the grating fixed on it to rotate together. Through the rotation of the grating, the photosensitive diode is blocked and opened when receiving the light emitted by the light-emitting diode, generating counting pulses, which are processed by the chip and displayed on the screen.

  Malfunction Resolution:Observing the trackball part of the ultrasound machine, it was found that there were many stains on the surface of the ball, and there were many residual coupling agents in the surrounding gaps. It was initially judged that the dried coupling agent adhered to dirt, causing the above problems.

  Open the key panel housing, remove the trackball component and disassemble it. We saw that the two rotating shafts inside the trackball box were wrapped with a sponge friction wheel. After years of friction, many sponge debris and coupling agent dust were scattered in the box, and the two light-splitting wheels were covered with impurities, resulting in obstruction or weakening of the transmission of light pulse signals, affecting the use of the trackball. The solution is to first gently blow out the impurities in the box with a blower, then carefully wipe off the accumulated dust on the surface of the light-emitting diodes and photosensitive receiving tubes with a cotton swab dipped in pure alcohol. For the rolling ball, first wash it with clean water, then wipe it with a cleaning wipe, and finally wipe it dry with a cotton cloth. It should be noted that it is best not to use detergents or other chemicals to clean the rolling ball, so as to avoid corrosion of the surface of the rolling ball.

  After processing, restore the component, do not cover the cover, and move the rolling ball in various directions with your hand to make the grating rotate. It feels that the light-splitting wheel does not rotate smoothly in the left and right directions. So use dry electronic cleaning agent to clean, after drying, add a small amount of lubricating grease to make it rotate smoothly. It is worth noting that it is best not to use lubricating oil, so as to avoid absorbing dust. Finally, reinstall the component into the machine, and the ultrasound machine works normally, and the malfunction is resolved.

  Trackball maintenance points: Keep your fingers clean when using. Do not drop coupling agent on the keyboard, especially the trackball, during use. Cover the keyboard with a dust cover when not in use.
