Fault Phenomenon
The ultrasound intermittently displays a sudden yellowing of the monitor's background color, which returns to normal after a few seconds.
Fault Analysis and Troubleshooting
First, we entered the maintenance mode and performed a self-test on the Hitachi EUB6500 ultrasound. The results showed everything was normal. Due to the intermittent nature of the fault, we could only observe it by keeping the machine powered on for an extended period. Within more than an hour, we observed two occurrences of the anomaly.
At the same time as the fault occurred, we noticed that the image on the workstation connected to the ultrasound did not show any abnormal reaction. This led us to initially judge that the main unit was functioning normally, and the problem might be with the monitor.
Additionally, we found that after turning off the Hitachi EUB6500 ultrasound (without disconnecting the power switch at the bottom of the machine), the monitor displayed “no
input”, suggesting that the design of this machine might be similar to a computer, with the monitor and main unit having separate power supplies. After opening the back cover of the monitor, we saw a cable from the main unit that included
a DC12V power output port, a VGA port, and a data cable interface, etc.
We used a 12V DC power adapter to power the monitor and connected it to a computer host using a VGA video cable, using it
as a substitute for a regular LCD monitor. After two hours of operation, no abnormalities were observed. Therefore, it can be roughly determined that the problem lies in the VGA video cable or the connectors at both ends.
After measuring with a multimeter, we found that one end of the video cable had poor contact due to bending. After consulting the manufacturer, they quoted a price of over 10,000 yuan for the entire cable assembly. However, through observation, we determined that the video cable connecting the ultrasound host and the monitor was independent. Therefore, we replaced it with a three-meter-long VGA video cable, and the fault was resolved.
