Water and air supply malfunctions mainly include nozzle blockage, water and air pipe blockage, and poor water and air supply.
1 Nozzle and water/air pipe blockage
1.1 Causes of blockage
(1) Accidental collision of the tip with a hard object causing nozzle deformation;
(2) Failure to clean immediately after using the endoscope;
(3) Dirt solidifying in the nozzle and water/air pipes;
(4) Failure to thoroughly clean the endoscope with detergent before disinfection;
(5) Disinfectant causing protein to solidify and block the nozzle and water/air pipes;
(6) Incorrect direction when wiping the lens surface;
(7) Cotton or paper scraps stuck in the nozzle;
(8) Using faulty cleaning accessories during cleaning and disinfection;
(9) Allowing dirt to be sent into the endoscope with irrigation.
1.2 Troubleshooting
When the water and air do not pass through the gastroscope, first remove the nozzle and then use a guide wire to pass water and air through the pipe from the operating end. The water and air pipes in the Olympus model are combined into one pipe via a three-way connection at the bend.
1.3 Repair steps:
(1) Loosen the nozzle screw with a No. 1 small flathead screwdriver (models 40 and above have an additional sheath), do not unscrew the screw completely;
(2) Remove the nozzle;
(3) Use a guide wire to pass through the water and air pipes at the operating end or tip, then press the button to supply water, flushing the water and air pipes until a strong stream of water appears and large bubbles are produced when air is supplied, then drain the remaining water from the water and air pipes;
(4) Use tweezers to hold lens paper dipped in alcohol to clean the pipe opening until there is no dirt;
(5) Test the water and air supply again to prevent dirt from falling into the pipe;
(6) Use tweezers to hold lens paper dipped in alcohol to clean the pipe opening again;
(7) Use tweezers to hold the nozzle, use a small screwdriver to apply a small amount of black adhesive (KE45B) around the straight part of the nozzle, carefully place it into the pipe opening, use the back of the tweezers to press the nozzle outlet down to the edge of the pipe opening, touch the nozzle outlet to ensure it does not feel rough, and the nozzle outlet should be aligned with the IG cover glass, then tighten the nozzle fixing screw, and apply adhesive to the edge of the nozzle and the screw holes;
(8) Test the water and air supply, the water flow should be a straight line spraying the lens surface, and the water flow should cover 90% of the lens surface, the bubbles should be large when air is supplied, if the requirements are not met, repeat the above steps;
(9) Apply adhesive again, bake under an incandescent lamp for 15 minutes, and check the water and air supply effect again.
1.4 How to avoid nozzle and water/air pipe blockage
(1) Handle the endoscope with care;
(2) Clean the endoscope immediately after use;
(3) Thoroughly clean the endoscope before disinfection;
(4) When wiping the lens surface, follow the direction of the nozzle;
(5) Thoroughly inspect the cleaning accessories for any problems before cleaning the endoscope.
2 Poor water and air supply
2.1 Causes
(1) The sealing ring of the water and air supply button is damaged, there is air when supplying water and the nozzle keeps dripping;
(2) The O-ring in the water bottle connector is damaged, water enters the air pipe, resulting in air when supplying water and a small amount of water;
(3) The O-ring in the water bottle is damaged, missing, deformed, or improperly installed, and gas leaks from the bottle;
(4) Bending the endoscope forcefully during use, causing the water and air pipe to bend.
2.2 How to avoid poor water and air supply problems
(1) Handle the endoscope with care, avoid bending the endoscope forcefully;
(2) Carefully check the sealing of the water bottle before use;
(3) Carefully check the sealing of the water and air button before use.
